Rules of the List
Greetings
...no, not that list,
this one. Merry Winter Solstice. This is a quarterly note, detailing a few
things regarding the way this list works. There are a multitude of
technical details regarding the list - virtually all of them have no
effect on how you use the list or what you see - there are really only
four points which ought to be mentioned.
-
1). This list is for
official announcements by the officers of the Barony of Brendoken and the
Seneschals of its constituent cantons. Anyone is welcome to subscribe, and
the list archives are public, but only official announcements will be
approved by the moderators. The Atrium is the list for general populace
discussion, and anyone is welcome to post there.
-
2). This list
limits messages to 80 kb. in size. Any bigger get stuck in the pipe, and
sit there until I dig them out and decide what to do about them. Normally
I will send them on their merry way, but be forewarned, if you send along
something with lots and lots of info in it, it may be awhile before it
appears on the list.
-
3). This list does not accept
attachments. Period. If you add an image file, or a pdf, or an exe, or any
other attachment, the mailer will strip it and discard it, sending along
the basic text message. If you send along a message with an image
attachment, it'll likely get stuck in the pipe, because it will exceed the
80 kb limit mentioned above. If I approve it, the mailer will strip the
attachment anyway. So, if I see one that has no text information other
something like "Hey everybody, lookit this!", I'll discard the
whole thing. If there is any actual info in the text, I'll likely pass it,
but there still won't be any attachment.
-
4). This list balks
at so-called BCC messages - that is, messages in which the addressees are
concealed. And a good thing, too - quite apart of making it look like you
are hiding something, BCC's are a major characteristic of several sorts of
spam. Once again, such a message will get stuck in the pipe, and I'll have
to unstick it whenever I see an alert and have time to respond. Normally,
I will send it along; but if your message is important timewise, best to
send it direct and in the clear, hm?
-
5). Ok, I lied. But this
isn't really a rule, it's just a comment to the effect that I manage this
list for your benefit - if you have any problems or difficulties with it,
please contact me, and I'll do my best to fix whatever the issue is.
That's what I'm here for.
Cordially;
Nigel
